Vision

EB: Efficiency and Balance

These letters, which are also my initials, symbolize the vision of how I choose to progress in my life. I strive to be efficient with materials, technology, and especially my time. Along with that efficiency, I want to balance the things I feel are important in my practice, my profession, and my personal life. A poem that I love by Dr. Benjamin E. Mays says it well:

“I have only just a minute, Only sixty seconds in it.  Forced upon me, can’t refuse it. Didn’t seek it, didn’t choose it. But it’s up to me to use it. I must suffer if I lose it. Give an account if I abuse it. Just a tiny little minute, But eternity is in it.”

I believe in balancing the time that we have with different aspects of our life. Practice, and family. Work and fun. My training and lectures focus on these aspects of efficiency and balance. I strive to help other dentists get the most out of their materials, technology, and time. I find that doctors, like most people, want to maximize every minute of their day, and they are anxious to learn how to do that. Helping others brings me satisfaction, and I love talking to people about how to improve their lives through improving their work.

 

Experience

Lake Harbor Dental Boise ID 2008 – Present

I started working at Lake Harbor Dental with Dr Michael Peterson right out of dental school.  I met him in my second year of dental school as I went around to various practices in Boise where I hoped to live and practice.  I met many doctors, but I felt like Mike would be the best fit.  He was an early adopter and CEREC trainer.  He also placed implants which interested me greatly.  I am very grateful for his mentorship and for allowing me to not only use the best technology available, but also help me thrive with it. We purchased Sirona’s Galileos CBCT in 2009 and have likely performed more CEREC/Galileos guided surgeries than any other office in our state or region.  I was introduced to cerecdoctors.com  in 2008 and likely was the youngest Mentor to join that group in 2012.  I started to CEREC train other drs officially for Patterson in 2010.

Milan Dental Boise ID – 2009-2013

Milan was primarily a dental assistant school operated by a corporation in California.  The dental clinic was run by 3-5 doctors and was a place where the assistants, with supervision, could come and see and help with clinical dentistry.  We served mainly Medicaid patients and those with lower incomes on a sliding scale including many refugees.  I quickly learned how to perform efficient extractions, create dentures and partials, make large fillings, crowns with traditional means of impressions and labs, and I was able to try out many different kinds of dental materials.  The autonomy was given to the clinicians as each worked as independent contractors.  Eventually Milan sold all of the patient’s records and equipment to me and I formed a group called Healthy Smiles LLC.  I managed 4 doctors for several months before I decided that I preferred clinical teaching and time with patients more than practice management.  I sold the business to a friend named Dr Scott Grant and helped transition and move the practice. It was time to focus on purchasing Lake Harbor as well as committing time to teach and train other doctors.
