Great Britain and Ireland won the Walker Cup for the first time since 2015 after a nerve-shredding late comeback saw them beat the USA by a 13½-12½ scoreline.
Dean Robertson's side looked to be heading for defeat at Lahinch after suffering a clean sweep of losses in the Sunday morning foursomes and with the Americans three points ahead going into the singles matches.
But the home side lost only two of the 10 matches and the competition eventually came down to the very last as Josh Hill won the 18th hole of his match with Tyler Watts to seal an incredible victory.
The USA will be left to regret the late turnaround after four missed putts to retain the Walker Cup.
Team GB&I needed a quick start to produce any sort of comeback and they delivered after Stuart Grehan, Luke Poulter - son of former Ryder Cup star Ian - Jack Whaley and Tyler Weaver all won their matches.
However, the Americans steadied the ship after securing halves through Miles Russell and Kihei Akina and wins courtesy of Ryder Cowan and Josiah Gilbert as it looked like they had thwarted the comeback.
As it looked like the Americans were about to take a firm grip on yet another win, Team GB&I responded once again. Eliot Baker overcame Stewart Hagestad on the 19th to ensure the Walker Cup would be determined on the final hole.
Hill and Watts were all square coming down the last in County Clare and Hill produced a stunning up-and-down from a bunker to complete a thrilling comeback and seal the unlikeliest of wins.
Speaking after securing the decisive point, Hill said: "This is absolutely unbelievable. It doesn't get better than this."
Captain Robertson added: "We are so elated. We're hardly able to put it into words. There's a lot of emotion, a lot of happy tears. But pride is the word I would use to describe this.
"There was most definitely a belief in the players and even though we were swept 4-0 this morning, there wasn't a despondency.
"The boys have delivered and I am incredibly proud of each and every one of them."
The victory by GB&I ends the streak of five victories in the Walker Cup by the USA and is their 10th win overall.
USA captain Nathan Smith refused to criticise his players, saying: "The match was incredible. It was definitely a tale of two days with what happened this morning and going forward now and how they played this afternoon.
"We knew how great their team was. They're a great team. They're a deep team. We knew they were capable of anything. Really at no time did we take the foot off the accelerator.
"All you can do is really tip your cap to them. They played great."

The morning session saw GB&I lose all the momentum they had claimed on Sunday as the USA comprehensively won all four matches to move into a three-point lead.
Home captain Robertson stuck with his pairings from Saturday, but his players struggled to perform and failed to take the lead in any of the four matches.
The demise started as Grehan and Baker were beaten 3&2 in the opening match of the day by Stout and Fang.
Leng Jr and Akina took out Poulter and Easterbrook by 4&3 in the second match, while Russell and Watts had little trouble in overcoming Weaver and Graham 3&2.
In the final match, the USA duo of Jennings and Cowan took the lead against Sheils Donegan and Hill on the second hole and never looked back, taking a 4&3 victory to leave the visitors needing just 3½ points in the afternoon session.
