Fernandes: De Zerbi 'was the key' to Spurs move

Spurs may have failed to win any of their first three Premier League games this season, but summer signing Matheus Fernandes is convinced he has joined a squad set to start fighting for trophies.

The 85m midfielder was wanted by a list of clubs after impressing for West Ham last season, with Man Utd keen on a deal but ultimately unable to go head-to-head with Spurs on the fee.

For Fernandes, it was his conversations with head coach Roberto De Zerbi which persuaded him the north London project was for him...

Rodri left lasting impression on Bouaddi before his arrival at Man City

Ayyoub Bouaddi considers Rodri his footballing benchmark as he attempts to fill the Ballon dOr winners boots at Manchester City.

City signed the highly rated 18-year-old Morocco midfielder for 86m this summer following the sale of Rodri to Barcelona.

The influential Rodri left a formidable legacy having won four Premier League titles and the Champions League among a host of honours with City, before helping Spain to World Cup glory.

Bouaddi has made a composed start to life at City, impressing in his first two Premier League appearances and producing a mature display on his first start against Porto in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Rodri is an unbelievable player, said Bouaddi.

He won the Ballon dOr and that means a lot.

"He is a reference for every player in this position.

McInnes confirms interest in Souttar persists

Rangers boss Derek McInnes has indicated a move could be in the offing for out-of-favour defender John Souttar.

Amid reports Sottar is set to leave and join Greek side Aris Thessaloniki, McInnes said: "I spoke to John this morning, he trained.

"There's a bit of interest in him from one or two clubs.

"One club maybe a bit further down the line than the other, but I think it's something that could develop.

"I don't think it's at that stage yet, but maybe something will happen over the next two or three days."

Sage expects Sarr to return to training on Monday

Crystal Palace boss Pierre Sage expects Ismaila Sarr to return to first-team training on Monday, with the winger absent since a potential summer move to Liverpool failed to materialise.

"It's always the same," Sage said.

"He's not with the team for the moment. I thought he would be with us on Monday but it was not the case.

"We expect him next Monday [to start training with the first team]."

Asked if he had spoken to Sarr, Sage said: "He's better and better. He feels better. His face is more open than it was five to ten days ago.

"But that's okay. We want him on the pitch now."

Sage added: "It's not the first time I have dealt with this kind of thing. We have to take care of the player."
